It was with great grief and sorrow that we awakened to the news of the tragic loss of a young life, a grandson of a close friend of ours Pratapan and Bindu. The child a young boy of 7 or 8 years was down with fever the last few days and not getting sleep had stayed awake watching TV the previous night with his father. At 5 the father put the child to sleep and at 6 a,m, the mother discovered that the boy had slept for ever never to return. What greater tragedy for a mother than to see and live such an experience. What a shock for the grand psrents and other relatives. The boy happened to be the only amongst 4 grandchildren of my friend. What a loss! How can we overcome such a loss. We rushed to our friends house to offer some solace, but knew nothing of how to do so. In this hour of their personal tragedy all we could offer was our presence and quiet support. Poor Bindu the daughter being miles away at Hyderabad God only knows if she would get a last glimpse of her beloved grand child. We can only commiserate with them and oray to the Lord to give them all the strength and courage to tbear the tragedy with courage and fortitude.
For me personally, this has vindicated a pattern I have been experiencing of late. Starting with a marriage I attended on 6th Jan this year every attendance of either a marriage or an engaement gas benn immediately succeeded by a death. In fact driving back from Guruvatur after attending a Wedding last Sunday, I had evn commented to my wife on this strange co-incidence. I asked her whether anything was in store this time and Lo and Behold there comes this tragic news. Should I start staying away from marriages and engagements in future, or is that a natural spinoff of a superstitious mind? God only knows.
